Title : Hungry ( Remade S01E02 ) Author: Andrea Phillips Publisher: Serial Box Publishing Publication Date: September 14th 2016 Genre: YA, Sci-Fi My Rating: 4/5 stars Links: GoodReads . SerialBox Blurb: Every minute, 108 people die. On October 14th, 2016, from 9:31-9:32 p.m. EDT, 23 of those deaths will be teenagers. Now they are humanity’s last hope for survival. Awakened in a post-apocalyptic world and hunted by mechanical horrors, these teens search for answers amidst the ruins of civilization. Fate, love, and loyalty face off in this adrenaline -pumping YA adventure. ReMade will unfold in 15 episodes. My Review: I received an e-ARC copy of Hungry from the publisher via NetGALLEY , in exchange with an honest review. In this episode, we get to know more about the place where Holden & those who were with him had arrived, which was revealed by the end of episode one. Not only that, but also we get to see some flashbacks for one of the characters' past lives , May's. You might be thinking, oh look at these poor teenagers . They are almost always starving, and living in a dangerous place. But can you imagine a person who is allergic to various types of food in that situation? It is like, should I die starving, or should I perish because of my allergies? It is important to see these situations, so that people in real life aren't so (close-minded ??) & selfish towards anyone who isn't similar to them.. The fact that she has food allergies adds such a crucial element to the book. I really appreciate it when authors make their main characters suffer from some illness or disability. It is an important method to get people to understand the struggle, and erase some their Ignorance . So thank you, Andrea Philips ! We also begin to see some typical human traits kick in. I can't wait to see the full of effect of that. It took me awhile to get into the story, but I ended up really enjoying it. I give it 4/5 stars. Title: Forget Yesterday #1 Author: Pintip Dunn Publisher: Entangled Teen Publication Date: November 3rd 2015 Genre: YA, Dystopia, Fantasy Format: Ebook My Rating: 3.5/5 stars Links: GoodReads . Amazon Blurb: Imagine a world where your destiny has already been decided…by your future self. It’s Callie’s seventeenth birthday and, like everyone else, she’s eagerly awaiting her vision―a memory sent back in time to sculpt each citizen into the person they’re meant to be. A world-class swimmer. A renowned scientist. Or in Callie’s case, a criminal. In her vision, she sees herself murdering her gifted younger sister. Before she can process what it means, Callie is arrested and placed in Limbo―a prison for those destined to break the law. With the help of her childhood crush, Logan, a boy she hasn’t spoken to in five years, she escapes the hellish prison. But on the run from her future, as well as the government, Callie sets in motion a chain of events that she hopes will change her fate. If not, she must figure out how to protect her sister from the biggest threat of all. My Review: I have to say that the concept that lead to this book is amazing !! Maybe I am being biased , since my WIP is based on a similar world. This is a book that will grab your attention right from the start, and leave you wondering what is going to happen next all of the time. My favorite thing about this book is the world that it is set in. In a world where (who you become in the future, affects what happens to you in the present), a lot of things could go wrong. Which is exactly what happened to our protagonist. I got some Delirium vibes, which is more than okay because that book is amazing ! I found the romance to be very rushed, especially when it comes to Callie. She didn't show any signs of affection towards Logan until he started talking to her again after 5 years of no communication what so ever. I don't want to mention any spoilers, but some of the revelations towards the end of book didn't click for me. I am counting on the sequel to clear these up because the main story has great potential . There is too much that need to me explained !! The Cliffhanger at the end was simply, perfect ! Overall , this was a good read. I give it 3.5/5 stars About the Author: When her first-grade teacher asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, Pintip replied, “An author.” Although she has pursued other interests over the years, this dream has never wavered. Pintip graduated from Harvard University, magna cum laude, with an A.B. in English Literature and Language. She received her J.D. at Yale Law School, where she was an editor of the YALE LAW JOURNAL. With time running out and mad dolls on the rampage, Ella questions her very existence as she unearths the secrets buried in her past; secrets that will decide whether Gabby will befall the same fate.. My Review: I received a review copy from Curiosity Quills , in exchange with an honest review. Broken Dolls is not only a book with an intruging plot that urges many readers to pick up the book, but also a story that will keep you questioning the main characters' motives with every page flipped. If you enjoyed Coraline, then you are probably going to end up Head over Heels for this book! If I can review this book with only one sentence, then this would be it . "This book is weird in the best way ever !!" After finishing this book, all that I wanted to do is send an email to Tim Burton to tell him about this incredible story !! I can see this adapted into a successful, dark stop motion animation . This book helped me survive my migraine that lasted for more than 12 hours ! When my eyes were closed to escape the dreadful fatigue , I had such a luscious, vivid tale to entertain me. Some people weren't pleased with how the book ended, but I simply believe that it was perfect. I absolutely loved Broken Dolls, and I can't wait to read more books by this awesome author. I give it 5/5 stars. About the Author: I'm a Jack, or more accurately, a Tyrolin of all trades. Broken Dolls, the first in the trilogy, is an international #1 bestseller and appeared on Buzzfeed's Top 24 Best SciFi/Fantasy Books of 2015. Fate, love, and loyalty face off in this adrenaline -pumping YA adventure. ReMade will unfold in 15 episodes. My Review: I received an e-ARC copy of Shadows and Dreams from the publisher via NetGALLEY , in exchange with an honest review. Shadows and Dreams is an intriguing pilot with lots of vivid, futuristic descriptions that will leave you craving to read the next episode . Sometimes, you need to read more than 30 pages to get into the book. However, this pilot managed to capture my interest half way through ( the 30-something pages) & the ending was just perfect. I felt like there was so much pressure on Mathew to make the readers fall in love with this serial , and I believe that he did an amazing job with this pilot ! About the Author: Originally from the Midwest, Matthew Cody now lives in New York City with his wife and son. When not writing books or goofing off with his family, he teaches creative writing to kids of all ages. Title: Queen of Someday ( Stolen Empire #1) Author: Sherry D. Ficklin Publisher: Clean Teen Publishing Publication Date: October 7th, 2014 Genre: YA, Historical Fiction Format: e-book My Rating: 3 stars Links: GoodReads . Betrothed to one man but falling in love with another, Sophie will need to decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice in order to become the empress she is destined to be. In a battle for the soul of a nation, will love or destiny reign supreme? My Review: I received a review copy from the Clean Teen Publishing in exchange with an honest review. If you enjoyed " The Selection", you might want to pick this up. The Selection was a dystopian, but this is a historical fiction. This means that you get to see less social status, more ugly truths in this book. My favorite thing about this book was the character building and development. I believe that Sherry did a fantastic job creating characters that you will get to truly love, hate, and pity . I wasn't a huge fan of the love square; this might be one of the reasons that turned me off. It wasn't easy for me to rate this book, there were a lot of things that I loved, yet a lot that I didn't really enjoy. I give it 3/5 stars. Title: Queen of Tomorrow ( Stolen Empire #2) Author: Sherry D. Ficklin Publisher: Clean Teen Publishing Publication Date: July 15th, 2015 Genre: YA, Historical Fiction Format: e-book My Rating: 4 stars Links: GoodReads . Amazon Blurb: Sophie—now Catherine, Grand Duchess of Russia—had a tough first year at Imperial Court. Fighting desperately against forces trying to depose the Empress Elizabeth and put the young Prince Ivan on her throne, Sophie soon finds herself in the middle of a war brewing between her beloved Prussia, and her new empire. But even as she navigates the fragile political landscape, she quickly realizes that she has only begun to discover the tangled web of deceit and infidelity woven over the lavish court of Oranienbaum Palace. When a strange and delicate alliance forms between the young couple, she glimpses a future of happiness, only to see it lost in a moment at the hands of those who still seek to end her life—and prevent her reign. Out of favor with the empress and running out of options, Sophie will have to sacrifice her own innocence on the altar of Russia if she is to save the nation, and herself. To survive, she will have to do the unthinkable, betray those closest to her and become something greater and more dangerous than she ever imagined she could be… a queen. My Review: I received a review copy from Clean Teen Publishing in exchange with an honest review. I didn't know that I will end up loving this book. I wasn't a big fan of the 1st book, but this.... It is incredible! I repeat what I said about character development in the 1st book, but Sherry takes it to a brand new level. The plot thickens in Queen of Tomorrow ! Sophie grows a thicker skin, and faces the consequences of doing so. Peter, well.... I went from hating him , to feeling sorry for him, and the circle keeps on spinning. If you have read the 1 st book , and weren't sure if you want to continue the series, I highly recommend you to do so. I really enjoyed this, and I give it 4/5 stars. About the Author: Sherry D. Ficklin is a full-time writer and the author of over a dozen novels for teens and young adults. She is the best-selling author of the Stolen Empire series, the #Hacker series, and The Lost Imperials series. She can often be found browsing her local bookstore with a large white hot chocolate in one hand and a towering stack of books in the other. That is, unless she’s on deadline at which time she, like the Loch Ness monster, is only seen in blurry photographs. Title: Resisting the Rebel Author: Lisa Brown Roberts Publisher: Entangled Crush Publication Date: July 25th, 2016 Genre: YA, Contemporary Format: ebook My Rating: 4.5 stars Links: GoodReads . Amazon . Blurb : Disclaimer: This book contains a villain pretending to be a hero, a hero pretending to be a villain, a disco-dancing heroine, two overprotective sidekicks, a little bit of bad language, and a whole lot of swoony kissing. Spirit committee leader Mandy Pennington is secretly in love with her best friend, Gus, but when he hooks up with her archenemy at a party, she decides to win him over once and for all. She just doesn’t know how. But who better to help than hot loner Caleb Torrs? Caleb’s got his own problems, but when he sees Mandy pining over Gus at a party, he thinks she’s finally smoked the spirit stick and lost her mind. Maybe he has, too, because he just asked Mandy to be his fake girlfriend. She’ll get her loser friend’s attention, and he’ll get his stalker ex off his back. It’s a win-win. But soon one fake date blends into the next and before he knows it, he actually wants to kiss Mandy. For real. Too bad their plan is working, and Gus is finally noticing the one girl Caleb just might be falling for… My Review : I received an eARC of Resisting the Rebel from the publisher via NetGalley, in exchange with an honest review. First things first, I am a realist. And I here by declare Lisa Brown Roberts as the Queen of Romance and Comedy. The charisma that these characters have is amazing. I has a hard time catching my breath from swooning & laughing ! I will admit that at the beginning , I wasn't a huge fan of the writing style. I knew that Lisa can write better than that because I read other works by her. But the elements of this story made me overlook this. What this book is and how it is marketed ,is what I dream the future industry of book publishing would become. Let me explain . Mandy has ADHD, and we see through out the story how this affects her school life and day to day interactions. However, the book is not being sold, or even 100% focussed on her ADHD. Don't get me wrong, I love how now we have a lot of diversity in books. And we currently really need these books. It is important to have such books, especially during this transition phase of having diverse characters. But I can't wait for the day to come, when I open the book and discover that the character is actually disabled, has mental illness , belongs to any of LQBTQ community, is a POC, is a Muslim, Jewish, Atheist ,or even a devoted Christian . This book 100% did that. When it comes to how well ADHD is presented, I am not 100% sure, but I think it was decently represented . If you have ADHD and read this book, let me know your thoughts. I was able to connect with Maddy on so many levels! Especially when it comes to school stuff . “How can my response be wrong?” Mandy Maddy's Response to The Catcher In The Rye is exactly the same as mine to those who tell me (I didn't read TFIOS correctly !)" I absolutely loved this book, and I can't the rest of Lisa's stories ! I give it 4.5/5 stars. About the Author : Lisa Brown Roberts still hasn't recovered from the teenage trauma of nearly tweezing off both eyebrows and having to pencil them in for an entire school year. This and other angst-filled memories inspire her to write YA books about navigating life's painful and funny dramas, and falling in love along the way. Title: The Memory Game Author: Sharon Sant Publisher: Lightfoot Press Publication Date: April 8th, 2015 Genre: YA, Thriller, Paranormal, Ghosts Format:e-ARC My Rating: 4/5 stars Links: Goodreads . Amazon . Blurb: 'If there is a hell, I think maybe this is it.' Weeks after fifteen-year-old David is killed by a speeding driver, he’s still hanging around and he doesn’t know why. The only person who can see and hear him is the girl he spent his schooldays bullying. Bethany is the most hated girl at school. She hides away, alone with her secrets until, one day, the ghost of a boy killed in a hit-and-run starts to haunt her. Together, they find that the end is only the beginning… My Review: I received an e Arc copy of The Memory Game from LightFoot Press via Net Galley in exchange with an honest review. Although the plot sounds a lot of things that have I watched and read before, the author found a way to take an (over said and done tale) , and make it unique. I would have to say that voicing the main characters' emotions is an important thing to display in this story, and I wasn't disappointed ! The ending left shocked and amazed ! I never saw that coming. I would definitely be interested in reading more of her novels. I give it 4/5 stars. About the Author : Sharon Sant was born in Dorset but now lives in Stoke-on-Trent. She graduated from Staffordshire University in 2009 with a degree in English and creative writing. She currently works part time as a freelance editor and continues to write her own stories. An avid reader with eclectic tastes across many genres, when not busy trying in vain to be a domestic goddess, she can often be found lurking in local coffee shops with her head in a book. Sometimes she pretends to be clever but really loves nothing more than watching geeky TV and eating Pringles. She is the author of a string of YA novels including Runners and the Sky Song trilogy. Title: Curses & Ash ( Coral & Bones ) Author: Tiffany Daune Publisher: Jester Ink Press -Self Published Publication Date: January 2016 Genre: YA , Fantasy , Mermaids, Magic Format: Paperback My Rating: 5/5 stars Links: Amazon . Goodreads Blurb: Discover the spellbinding sequel to Coral & Bone... A demented twin sister, a demon hijacking her powers, and a mysterious journal filled with more questions than answers—Halen needs her Guardian Dax more than ever. But if she confides in Dax, she fears he will never forgive her, not after all he sacrificed to help her vanquish Asair. Halen drowned Asair in a tornado of wings—at least, she thought she killed him. Why then does his mocking voice snake through her thoughts, enticing her to surrender her power? Maybe she screwed up—big time—but she will never allow Asair to control her magick. And when Etlis' fires threaten the Earth, suspicions surrounding Asair's death rise, igniting restlessness within the realms. Her life in balance, Halen must race time, purge the demon's soul before flames consume the Earth or the Tari strike first. My Review: I received a copy of Curses & Ash from the author in exchange with my honest review . I really enjoyed reading Coral & Bones , the 1st book in the series. I fell in love with the plot , writing style, and world building . I was expecting the sequel, Curses & Ash, to be like it. It wasn't ; it was much better !! I have no idea Tiffany was able to make a sequel that was so great , compared to the epic start of the series . Sequels sometimes end up to be a disappointment , but Tiffany was able to break this stereotype. The story picks from where the 1st book ended, with us wondering if Asair is actually inside Halen. This means that one will be hooked by the story directly. In this sequel that is filled with surprises, hate, love, and a lot of ( OMG), I found myself unable to put this book down. The book was leaving me torn apart with every chapter I finish ! The book contained a story within a story that left me amazed. It was so creative , like that in Holly Black's The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. Between the unfolding events, characters' pasts, and their lies&secrets, you will barely be able to put this book down. As I approached the end, I entered a reading phase that I rarely ever visit; the shuffling between "Having a few pages left ,with events that are going to destroy me emotionally, that I pause with every page to delay it" & " Reading so fast to see how the story ends " ! How does Tiffany have all of this amazing creativity ???? Not only that, but she describes these descriptions and feelings perfectly ! No, perfect doesn't even begin to describe this ." To sum it all up, this book left me emotionally exhausted , and impatiently waiting for the end of the series ! I give Curses & Ash 5/5 stars . Click on the image to read my review of Coral & Bones ! Blurb: Halen knows the sparks igniting under her fingertips are dangerous. She has spent her entire life trying to quell the tingly feelings that make her destroy things, but now that she is back in Rockaway Beach, where she watched her father drown, the flames have become impossible to tame. Halen is trying to hold on, but when she is thrust into a mysterious new world, the underwater realm of Elosia, she unravels the secrets of her past and can't help but ignite. As she explores Elosia, she realizes her life has been a lie. And when those who have deceived her come to her for help, Halen must choose—walk away or unleash the magick that could destroy them all. About the Author : Tiffany Daune writes stories about magick, love and dark creatures lurking in the shadows. She is the author of Surface and the Coral & Bone series. When not lost in Editland, you can find her reading a book from her towering tbr pile or kicking back and watching movies with her family. She lives on an island, in the Pacific Northwest, surrounded by mermaids that are much nicer than the ones found in her books. Website . Twitter Title: The Darkest Lie Author: Pintip Dunn Publisher: Kensington Publishing Publication Date: June 28th 2016 Genre: YA, Mystery , Contemporary Links: Amazon . Goodreads . Soon, finding the truth isn’t just a matter of restoring her mother’s reputation, it’s about saving lives—including CeCe’s own… My Review : I received an eARC of The Darkest Lie from JenHalliganPR in exchange with my honest review . This is my first Pintip book to read; honestly , I wasn't disappointed . The writing style perfectly entwines with the plot of the story. It will keep you on your toes, anticipating to flip every single page to unravel the mystery . I really liked the topics that Pintip discussed in this book . It is more than just suicide . There are things that I can not mention without spoiling the book, but I can tell you this. It includes topics that many authors choose to stay away from , and refrain from discussing it. The Darkest Lie made me stay up till sunrise to finish it, just because I couldn't bare the idea of sleeping without knowing how the story ends. This is one of the 3 books that helped me overcome my very long reading slump, so there is that ! I really enjoyed The Darkest Lie, and I can't wait to read more of Pintip's books. I give this book 4.5/5 stars. About the Author: Pintip Dunn graduated from Harvard University, magna cum laude, with an A.B. in English Literature and Language. In fact I don’t remember anything before I came to Spindle Ridge, not even my boyfriend. I can only grasp onto my realistic dreams while the madness of the asylum threatens to pull me under. I dream I’m a beautiful princess and there is an evil faerie named Maleficent who is bent on my destruction. The dreams are the closest thing I have to memories of my life, except they aren’t real. I’m crazy. I’m not a princess. They’re the mad illusions of an irrational teenage girl, right? They’ve assigned me a new doctor, and she says I can trust her, and that she’ll help me see the truth of who I really am. When she arrived she brought a new patient, Sawyer, who is everything Spindle Ridge isn’t: exciting, mysterious and beautiful. He promises he’s here to rescue me. Trusting either of them frightens me. Could it be possible that my dreams are more than just the imaginings of a delusional girl? Could they be truth? My Review: I received a review copy of Slumber from the author in exchange with an honest review. Slumber is a retelling of The Sleeping Beauty, and to be honest, this is one of the most creative Sleeping Beauty retellings that I have ever read. The way the author took the fairy tale's unseen basics, tore it apart, and built something that is brand new is amazing. I wasn't a huge fan of the writing style, and the thing that kept me reading was the plot . Since the writing style is very important to me, I felt like the book lacked such an important component. I think that Christy Sloat has great stories to tell; not great, but epic . However, I probably won't finish this duolgy. I really enjoyed the concept of this book, and I give it 3/5 stars.
