Title: Rebel Wing ( Rebel Wing #1) Author: Tracy Banghart Publisher: Alloy entertainment Publication Date: July 29th, 2014 Genre: New Adult, War, Dystopia, Sci-Fi, Romance Format: eARC My Rating: 5/5 ( A) Blurb: The Dominion of Atalanta is at war. But for eighteen-year-old Aris, the fighting is nothing more than a distant nightmare, something she watches on news vids from the safety of her idyllic seaside town. Then her boyfriend, Calix, is drafted into the Military, and the nightmare becomes a dangerous reality. Left behind, Aris has nothing to fill her days. Even flying her wingjet—the thing she loves most, aside from Calix—feels meaningless without him by her side. So when she’s recruited to be a pilot for an elite search-and-rescue unit, she leaps at the chance, hoping she’ll be stationed near Calix. But there’s a catch: She must disguise herself as a man named Aristos. There are no women in the Atalantan Military, and there never will be. Aris gives up everything to find Calix: her home. Her family. Even her identity. But as the war rages on, Aris discovers she’s fighting for much more than her relationship. With each injured person she rescues and each violent battle she survives, Aris is becoming a true soldier—and the best flyer in the Atalantan Military. She’s determined to save her Dominion . . . or die trying. For fans of Divergent, Code Name Verity, and The 100, Rebel Wing is an epic sci-fi adventure that explores just how far one girl will go for love and country. My Review: I received an eARC of Rebel wing from Alloy Entertainment via NetGalley in exchange with an honest review . The beginning of the story itself is a kind of a retelling of Mulan. We follow the story of Aris,a girl who loves to fly and can hardly wait to be promised by the love of her life Calix. However things do not go according to plan when Calix is chosen to join the Military and leave Aris unpromised. feeling heart broken, she lost her love for flying and when she was offered a chance to join the military as flyer, she takes it. But women aren't allowed to enter the Military , and entering means being highly fit. Could Aris overcome her fragility and make it in? Will she reunite with Calix? Could she actually fit in and help rescue other people? I know, it sounds kick Ass right? I loved the transformation that Aris has gone through, which was from being dependent on everyone to being strong enough to stand for what she believes. The Author did that in a very impressive way through out the book. I was able to connect to how each character was feeling very easily. It was as if I was right there;like I was in their shoes. This is book that I had a really hard time to put it down. The book was a perfect escape route from my exams. Each reading session left me eager to read more and quite refreshed to carry on with my studying. I loved this book and I believe that it is going to be one of my favorite series. It has this perfect mix of character development, action, and love. I give this book 5/5 stars and an A according to my own rating scale !

Title: Puppet Author: Pauline C. Harris Publisher: Patchwork Press Publication Date: October 24, 2014 Format: eARC My Rating: 4/5 stars ( B) Blurb: Penelope lives in a world of advanced technology but many claim society has yet to catch up. Marionettes have advanced in the form of robots; lifelike creations remote controlled to perform super human tasks. When Penelope makes a deal with Jed, a marionette-obsessed scientist, she doesn’t fully realize what she’s getting herself into. In order for Jed to take her away from the orphanage she lives in, she must first agree to undergo his experiments and tests, ultimately creating something no one ever dreamed possible; the first living marionette. My Review: I received an e ARC copy of puppet from Patchwork press via Netgalley in exchange with an honest review. Puppet is a retelling of the classic Pinocchio. The author finds such an exquisite and unique plot filled with advanced technology & action and weavers it perfectly with many Pinocchio aspects. It took me a bit to see the Pinocchio resemblance, but once i saw it, there was no going back. It is magnificent ! I loved how the author kept going back and forth between the life she gave away, and was what she signed up for really worth it. The Self discovery journey is mind blowing, especially when everyone seems to control you , except for you. I think the romance element was a bit rushed. There were literally no signs to show that those two certain characters both had feelings for each other. Also, there was that one description that was repeated way more than it needed to convey the message. However, this was definitely an enjoyable read, a perfect retelling, and a great self discovery story. I gave Puppet 4/5 stars and a B according to my own rating scale. Title:The Scorch Trails ( The Maze Runner #2) Author: James Dashner Publisher: Delacorte Press Publication Date: October 10th, 2010 Genre: Dystopian, Sci Fi, YA Format: Paperback My Rating: 5/5 stars ( A) Blurb: Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end. Thomas was sure that escape from the Maze would mean freedom for him and the Gladers. But WICKED isn’t done yet. Phase Two has just begun. The Scorch. There are no rules. There is no help. You either make it or you die. The Gladers have two weeks to cross through the Scorch—the most burned-out section of the world. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them. Friendships will be tested. Loyalties will be broken. All bets are off. There are others now. Their survival depends on the Gladers’ destruction—and they’re determined to survive. My Review: The sequel of The Maze Runner keeps up with the level of mystery and thrill, but in a different way. It picks up right from where The Maze Runner ended, which is great. I Found it much easier to get into because I was already invested in the story and I was trying to figure out Wicked and all the crazy things that were happening. Not only that the element of love is added in the second book, but also it is a Love triangle. This story is about extreme manipulation with emotions and believes, and James Dashner was able to involve me with what Thomas went through. It might not be highly action packed like The Maze Runner, oh man, but the feels it gives you is phenomenal ! Every couple chapters left me humming the intro of Macklemores' Thrift Shop, which goes something like What What What , What What What? The Only thing that kind of annoyed me was how much Thomas passed out and slept in this book, probably about 20 times ! I really enjoyed the Scorch Trails and I gave it 5/5 stars and an A according to my own rating scale. Title: The Maze Runner (#1) Author: James Dashner Publisher: Delacorte Press Publication Date: January 1st, 2014 Genre: Science Fiction, Post-Apocalyptic, Dystopian, Ya My Rating: 5/5 stars ( A + ) Blurb: "If you ain't scared, you ain't human." When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He's surrounded by strangers--boys whose memories are also gone. Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It's the only way out--and no one's ever made it through alive. Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying. My Review: This is not your typical Ya Dystopian book! This is a mind blowing, exciting, terrifying, action packed read; All in just one book. The world building in this book is phenomenal. I was able to visualize such a creative place and enjoy every single description from the moving walls of the maze to the creepy and dangerous Grievers .In other words, the vivid imagery is beyond being Epic ! The story was not particularly told from Thomas's point of view, but the entire story revolves around him; as in, we always see what he sees. I really liked character building of almost everyone. From curiosity to fear to hate, this book shows you, no, makes you be in the character's shoe of emotions. Although it took me a while to get into the story, The Maze Runner turned to be a fantastic read with both great writing and an amazing plot. Many people found the slang language used annoying;however, i really enjoyed it. They only use a couple of slang words !Some of these slang words often have a funny origin, adding the element of humor to the book. I give this book 5/5 stars and an A+ according to my own rating scale. |
