Title: Curses & Ash ( Coral & Bones ) Author: Tiffany Daune Publisher: Jester Ink Press -Self Published Publication Date: January 2016 Genre: YA , Fantasy , Mermaids, Magic Format: Paperback My Rating: 5/5 stars Links: Amazon . Goodreads Blurb: Discover the spellbinding sequel to Coral & Bone... A demented twin sister, a demon hijacking her powers, and a mysterious journal filled with more questions than answers—Halen needs her Guardian Dax more than ever. But if she confides in Dax, she fears he will never forgive her, not after all he sacrificed to help her vanquish Asair. Halen drowned Asair in a tornado of wings—at least, she thought she killed him. Why then does his mocking voice snake through her thoughts, enticing her to surrender her power? Maybe she screwed up—big time—but she will never allow Asair to control her magick. And when Etlis' fires threaten the Earth, suspicions surrounding Asair's death rise, igniting restlessness within the realms. Her life in balance, Halen must race time, purge the demon's soul before flames consume the Earth or the Tari strike first. My Review: I received a copy of Curses & Ash from the author in exchange with my honest review . I really enjoyed reading Coral & Bones , the 1st book in the series. I fell in love with the plot , writing style, and world building . I was expecting the sequel, Curses & Ash, to be like it. It wasn't ; it was much better !! I have no idea Tiffany was able to make a sequel that was so great , compared to the epic start of the series . Sequels sometimes end up to be a disappointment , but Tiffany was able to break this stereotype. The story picks from where the 1st book ended, with us wondering if Asair is actually inside Halen. This means that one will be hooked by the story directly. In this sequel that is filled with surprises, hate, love, and a lot of ( OMG), I found myself unable to put this book down. The book was leaving me torn apart with every chapter I finish ! The book contained a story within a story that left me amazed. It was so creative , like that in Holly Black's The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. Between the unfolding events, characters' pasts, and their lies&secrets, you will barely be able to put this book down. As I approached the end, I entered a reading phase that I rarely ever visit; the shuffling between "Having a few pages left ,with events that are going to destroy me emotionally, that I pause with every page to delay it" & " Reading so fast to see how the story ends " ! How does Tiffany have all of this amazing creativity ???? Not only that, but she describes these descriptions and feelings perfectly ! No, perfect doesn't even begin to describe this ." To sum it all up, this book left me emotionally exhausted , and impatiently waiting for the end of the series ! I give Curses & Ash 5/5 stars . Click on the image to read my review of Coral & Bones ! Blurb: Halen knows the sparks igniting under her fingertips are dangerous. She has spent her entire life trying to quell the tingly feelings that make her destroy things, but now that she is back in Rockaway Beach, where she watched her father drown, the flames have become impossible to tame. Halen is trying to hold on, but when she is thrust into a mysterious new world, the underwater realm of Elosia, she unravels the secrets of her past and can't help but ignite. As she explores Elosia, she realizes her life has been a lie. And when those who have deceived her come to her for help, Halen must choose—walk away or unleash the magick that could destroy them all. About the Author : Tiffany Daune writes stories about magick, love and dark creatures lurking in the shadows. She is the author of Surface and the Coral & Bone series. When not lost in Editland, you can find her reading a book from her towering tbr pile or kicking back and watching movies with her family. She lives on an island, in the Pacific Northwest, surrounded by mermaids that are much nicer than the ones found in her books. Website . Twitter

Title: Slumber (#1) Author: Christy Sloat Publisher: Anchor Group Publishing Publication Date: March 16th 2015 Genre: Retelling, Fantasy, YA, Fairy Tales Format: e-copy My Rating: 3/5 stars Links: GoodReads . Amazon Blurb: Not all princesses get their happily ever after... They tell me I killed my boyfriend Phillip in cold blood. I stabbed him twenty one times. I’m only seventeen years old, and I am serving life in Spindle Ridge Asylum for the Criminally Insane. I don’t remember killing him, so it’s really hard to believe I’m capable of murder. In fact I don’t remember anything before I came to Spindle Ridge, not even my boyfriend. I can only grasp onto my realistic dreams while the madness of the asylum threatens to pull me under. I dream I’m a beautiful princess and there is an evil faerie named Maleficent who is bent on my destruction. The dreams are the closest thing I have to memories of my life, except they aren’t real. I’m crazy. I’m not a princess. They’re the mad illusions of an irrational teenage girl, right? They’ve assigned me a new doctor, and she says I can trust her, and that she’ll help me see the truth of who I really am. When she arrived she brought a new patient, Sawyer, who is everything Spindle Ridge isn’t: exciting, mysterious and beautiful. He promises he’s here to rescue me. Trusting either of them frightens me. Could it be possible that my dreams are more than just the imaginings of a delusional girl? Could they be truth? My Review: I received a review copy of Slumber from the author in exchange with an honest review. Slumber is a retelling of The Sleeping Beauty, and to be honest, this is one of the most creative Sleeping Beauty retellings that I have ever read. The way the author took the fairy tale's unseen basics, tore it apart, and built something that is brand new is amazing. I wasn't a huge fan of the writing style, and the thing that kept me reading was the plot . Since the writing style is very important to me, I felt like the book lacked such an important component. I think that Christy Sloat has great stories to tell; not great, but epic . However, I probably won't finish this duolgy. I really enjoyed the concept of this book, and I give it 3/5 stars. About the Author: Christy Sloat is a SoCal born girl who resides in New Jersey currently with her husband, two daughters and Sophie her Chihuahua. Christy has embraced the love of reading and writing since her youth and was inspired by her grandmother's loving support. Christy passes that love of reading, writing, and creativity to her daughters, family, and friends. She loves adventurous journeys with her friends and can be known to get lost inside a bookstore. Nearly a year has gone by and now it’s Dorothy who is fragmented and lost, while Joey keeps the promise he had made her to better himself—even though she’s gone. Joey talks about what is happening in the present while Dorothy describes what happened before— in the moments and hours after the Glock dropped. This time the stakes are even higher, as Joey forces himself to move forward while Dorothy is frozen in place. But when he learns of a devastating decision, Joey races to find her before it is too late. Truth, consequence, repercussion and modern medicine collide as pieces converge in this psychological, thrilling story, which begs the question: Can love really conquer all? My Review: I received an eARC of Signs of Life from Jen Halligan PR in exchange with my honest review. I was highly anticipating the Rough Romance's sequel because I really fell in love with the 1st book, Melt. I loved it so much , that I wrote a poem that was inspired my the story. You can read it here . I loved how Selene wrote this story. We get to slowly see the past, which is a continuation of Melt's ending, and its effect on the present. Not only that, but also we get to see how many characters viewed these events. At first, it was mostly Joey and Dorothy , but then we get to see how other characters think. I won't say which characters because flipping the page , and discovering that one of these characters get to share his/her POV of the story ,is an experience in it self ! Once you reach 20% of the book, you keep on flipping the pages because you will be so anticipated to know the continuation of what a specific character, in a specific tense, has to share. I can't even say how many quotes I had to copy from this novel; was it way too much,or not even enough ? For the first time, this book opened my eyes to something I have never realized while reading a book. It all started when Joey was thinking in a certain way, and I started yelling No ! No! No ! I kept on saying how it is wrong to think like that; I was so disappointed. Then, I realized something that I have already believe in, but never had to consider in a book. As humans, we all see things differently and have different opinions. My opinions build up and create facts, but these facts are only my facts. To others, it is just another opinion. So why was I so pissed when one of my favorite characters thoughts and believes opposed mine. Because for the 1st time, a character I liked had thoughts that I absolutely disagree with. Because this is what books should do, represent other thoughts and believes than yours. I have no idea why this only became clear tome now, but I would like to thank Selene for that; for making me see that flawed characters are the best type of characters. Because we are all flawed, but we don't always see some of our flaws. The only thing that I didn't like in this book was how long Joey's self-punishment routine was expressed. I wished that it wasn't that expressed at the beginning because it made wonder if I was going to enjoy this book. Nevertheless, I ended up loving the sequel. Just like Melt, Signs of Life left me screaming because the ending is simply the perfect, most tortoures way to keep me anticipated for the 3rd and final book. I give it 4.5 / 5 stars
Checkout My Review For Melt!
Based on true events, MELT is both a chilling tale of abuse, and a timeless romance. MELT will hit you like a punch in the face, and also seep through the cracks in your soul. MELT is a brutal love story set against the metaphorical backdrop of The Wizard of Oz (not a retelling). When sixteen year old Dorothy moves to the small town of Highland Park, she meets, and falls for Joey – a “bad boy” who tells no one about the catastrophic domestic violence he witnesses at home. Can these two lovers survive peer pressure, Joey’s reputation, and his alcoholism? Told in dual first person, Joey’s words are scattered on the page – reflecting his broken state. Dorothy is the voice of reason – until something so shattering happens that she, too, may lose her grip. Can their love endure, or will it melt away? When Aris Haan brought down Safara’s biggest war criminal, she’d thought it was a turning point in the war. Victory was on the horizon, as was a peaceful future with her Promised, Milek. But a deadly new threat has emerged: a Safaran bomb that could wipe out all of Atalanta in one catastrophic blast. Friendships are tested, loyalties are strained, and suddenly Aris no longer knows whom she can trust. In the epic conclusion to the Rebel Wing series, Atalanta’s fate rests on Aris’s shoulders. Can she find the bomb before it destroys everything—and everyone—she loves? My Review: I was so happy when Alloy Entertainment sent me an ebook copy via NetGalley,in exchange with an honest review. Before starting the book, I saw how many people were disappointed with this novel, and started doubting if I was really going to enjoy it. Guess what, I LOVED IT ! The first book (Rebel Wing) , and the sequel (Storm Fall) , were beyond amazing! It was no surprise for me to discover how amazing is this series finale ! Did it have a slow beginning, yes! But after 9%, I couldn't stop reading from all of the events and sub plots that just kept on coming back to back. Torn Sky is the perfect mix of Romance and Action. I got to see Aris's and Milek's relationship develop, and we finally get to see Dysis happy ! ;) The last 20% of the book left me with lots of emotions rushing through my mind. One thing that really caught my attention is how this book focuses on Women Strength ; how they can accomplish anything they want, even if the law is against it. I love how Tracy ended the series, and resolved every single thread of a plot. This Mulan retelling dystopian series is just so amazing. I can't believe that this series is over ! I enjoyed reading this final installment I will be keeping an eye for what Tracy releases next;I am waiting to be hooked by her next novel. I give it 4.5/5 stars Haven't heard about the series ????? Check out my reviews on Rebel Wing and Storm Fall About the Author: Award-winning author, Army wife, and mom Tracy Banghart has an MA in Publishing and an unhealthy affection for cupcakes. Title: Everything, Everything Author: Nicola Yoon Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers Publication Date: September 1st, 2015 Genre: Contemporary , YA, Fiction, Romance Format: ebook My Rating: 4/5 stars Links: GoodReads Amazon Blurb: My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla. But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly. Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster. My Review: I received an ecopy of Everything,Everything from Random House via NetGalley. Everything, Everything is everything you need in a YA diverse book ! As if this wasn't enough, the author was able to catch my attention from the first few pages. I was going to start by saying "If you enjoyed The Fault in Our Stars, then you will love Everything, Everything; HOWEVER, I did not really like TFIOS, but enjoyed reading Everything, Everything ! I felt like I am experiencing something epic ,especially with all of the images, doodles, and 1 sentence book reviews. Observing these images made the book very unique; Nope, it is not a Graphic novel, or a picture book. Something that always crossed my mind is how Nicola would feel if people reviewed Everything,Everything, the way Maddie did ,in one sentence .Honestly the way she did it was impressive. Short, but very expressive! I kind of saw the plot twist coming , but I still enjoyed the story anyway because the events that lead to the plot twist, and followed it were very captivating . One of my favorite quotes: "For the first time in a long time, I want more than I have"- Madeline While reading this book, my grandma passed away. I stopped reading for a while, but found my way back to favorite thing to do because of Nicola's story,Maddie, and Olly. The ending was simply.......PERFECT ! I really enjoyed reading this book, and I can't wait to read Nicola's upcoming novel, The Sun Is Also A Star. I am so happy that this book is going to be turned into a movie;I even cried upon reading her tweet ! I give this book 4/5 stars. About the Author: Nicola Yoon grew up in Jamaica (the island) and Brooklyn (part of Long Island). She currently resides in Los Angeles, CA with her husband and daughter, both of whom she loves beyond all reason. Everything, Everything is her first novel.

She is convinced she belongs with Phoenix and his revolution, but will her friends, and especially Phoenix, be ready to accept her when she returns? Because this time, evil is in her blood... My review: I received an eARC of The Coupling in exchange with an honest review. I have been anticipating this book ever since I have read The Letting ( Click here to read my review of book 1) , so once The Coupling blog tour was announced, I knew that I had to be a part of it. The book starts with the best prologue ever. It made me wonder about how the story will twist and turn for the characters to end up right there, since the 1st few chapters and the blurb makes it seem impossible. I was disappointed with the how some characters acted during the beginning of the book; it made the writing and the character building flake out a bit. However, the story's plot continues to intrigue me. Catherine has created a novel concept, with events that will keep you flipping through the pages. I will be waiting for the 3rd book in the series to see what happens next ! I give it 3.25 /5 stars Enter the Giveaway !

Given my love for cities and all that is gritty, my new obsession with trees really has me stumped. (Sorry.) Maybe it's because trees are the inspiration behind my new YA/NA novel, THE LETTING. Whatever the reason for my new infatuation, some things remain constant -- like my love for: coffee (although sadly, it's now decaf); yoga; Luna bars (I am petitioning for them to bring back Chocolate Raspberry!); running in my neighborhood; Hemingway; Bukowski... and, above all, my husband and my girls. Title: Inked ( Inked #1)

He is ready to run from his family, and his best friend Dreya, and the home he has known, just to have a chance at a choice. But when he upsets the very Scribe scheduled to give him his Ink on his eighteenth birthday, he unwittingly sets in motion a series of events that sends the corrupt, magic-fearing government, The Citadel, after him and those he loves. Now Caenum, Dreya, and their reluctant companion Kenzi must find their way to the Sanctuary, a secret town where those with the gift of magic are safe. Along the way, they learn the truth behind Ink, its dark origins, and why they are the only ones who can stop the Citadel. Eric Smith takes you on a high-octane fantasy adventure, perfect for anyone who has dreamed of being different… only to discover that fate is more than skin deep. My Review: I received a review copy of inked from the author via YA Bound Books in exchange with an honest review. I usually dive into books knowing so little about the plot, and this was the case with Inked. By only reading the 1st two sentences in the blurb, I was intrigued to know what happens next. I wasn't disappointed ! The author was not only to capture my attention to pick the book, but also to continue reading it. I was hooked from chapter 1. I loved the way the author described the tattoo given, and how it affects a person's career. Fate is meant to be discovered along the way, and not to be a method of control. Trying to control people's fates , which is the point of being inked, is extremely dangerous ; Eric did a brilliant job of showing it. I didn't like the character development. I found it to be rushed at times, and no explanation would support how fast a character's state of mind changed. I really enjoyed Inked, and I am glad to know that there is going to be a sequel published in May 2016. I give it 4/5 stars. Enter the Giveaway :

Author Links: Website│Goodreads│Twitter│Facebook Title: Placid Girl Author: Brenna Ehrlich Publisher: All Age Press Publication Date: August 25th , 2015 Genre: YA Format: e ARC My Rating: 4.5/ 5 Pre Order link : Amazon Blurb: Punk was created for the malcontents, something that loner and aspiring drummer Hallie understands all too well. Trapped in a boring suburban life – dysfunctional parents included! – Hallie drowns her angst in the angry songs of Haze, a masked musician who has not been heard from in five years. So naturally she’s surprised – and more than a little skeptical – when someone who seems to be Haze starts flirting with her via her favorite photo-sharing app. Is he who he says he is? What does he want from her? The questions only multiply when Hallie — along with bandmate Sarah and aspiring music journalist Steve — roadtrip to Haze's comeback gig to unmask the reclusive musician once and for all. My Review: I received an e ARC copy of Placid Girl from All Age Press via Net Galley, in exchange with an honest review. One of the most thrilling books that I have ever read ! The author will keep you on your toes with every page you turn. You know how sometimes a chapter begins with a classical quote; well this one begins with a lyrics from one of Haze's songs. I wish Haze was a real artist. You know what, scratch that ! I just wish that both albums existed in real life. Brenna will make you experience the music written as if you were at a live concert. Every beat will move you, and the lyrics will change you. I really liked the concept of the story. We follow Hallie, Sarah, and Steve as they try to " unmask " Haze. The journey itself is rough. It is filled with a mixture of receiving secret messages, parent abuse, parent neglection , uncovering past events, falling in love , running away from the police......see? It is pretty awesome. There was a time when these secret messages were very creepy, and I was surprised to how Hallie reacted to them! However, after finishing the novel, I read something about how this book was somehow related to Lolita, which made me accept Hallie's actions. I wished the author explained what was happening at Sarah's house, instead of referring to it was bad over there. I was curious to know the events. I loved Stevie ! Although he could be rude at times, I totally shipped those short Stellie moments. I also never saw that Sarah-Hallie thing coming. I loved the ending ! It was just perfect. It was one of the 4 predictions that I had in mind, so I was not disappointed . To anyone who read the book, let us discuss the last sentence !!!!!! In other words, Placid girl was an original, refreshing read. I give it 4.5 stars out of 5. Title: Anya and the Shy Guy ( A Backstage Pass Novel #4 ) Author: Suze Winegardner Publisher: Entangled Teen Crush Publication Date: July 14th, 2015 Genre: YA , Contemporary Format: e ARC My Rating: 4.25 / 5 stars Blurb: It’s always the quiet ones… Anya Anderson doesn’t just need a big break, she needs any break. Living on the streets doesn’t leave a girl many options, so when she scores a gig reporting on the Seconds to Juliet tour, she jumps at the chance to earn enough money to sleep somewhere safe. And the paycheck will get bigger—and keep her off the streets for good—if she can dig up dirt on Will Fray, the irritatingly hot “shy guy” of the band. Problem is, Will Fray isn't who everyone thinks he is. In fact, he’s not Will at all. Matt, Will's identical twin, is actually the guy onstage, reluctantly covering for his brother while he’s in rehab. To make matters worse, Matt’s being shadowed by a cute reporter with troubled eyes determined to get the scoop. On him. And he's having trouble finding the willpower to keep his distance… But if the secret gets out, it won't just be his head on a platter—it’ll be the whole band’s. This Entangled Teen Crush book contains steamy make out scenes, graphic language, and a love story so hot your copy may spontaneously burst into flames. You’ve been warned. My Review: I received an e ARC of Anya and the Shy Guy from Entangled Crush via Net Galley in exchange with my honest review. Although I did not read any of the previous books, I was still able to keep up and enjoy the book easily. The Backstage pass is a series that follows a famous boy band as each one of them fall in love. In this fourth installation, we get to see the shy guy ,Will, fall in love, but Will isn't Will. This novel is told from 2 POV's , but in third person ! We follow Anya's story as she tries to get her story on Will to escape living on the streets, and the lies she told and hid . We also see Matt's story as he tries to charm Anya to keep her from discovering his twin's secrets, but of course they Fall In Love ! But will this love survive ? Can their secrets stay hidden? What would happen if both of their secrets are spilled? Tada da dan ! Read to know how this story ends I like that we got see both POV, and I like it more that it is written in 3rd person. I also liked how the characters developed, in a "what matters to me more "sort of way. My only problem was something that happened in the ending. Spoiler Alert Spoiler Alert !! I am not convinced that their manager agreed to back off so easily. He seemed like a person who would risk anything to get what he wants, isn't that why Will is not Will, but backed off too easily at the end. I wished that there was more into what happened when the band stood up for what they want. Spoiler Ended Spoiler Ended !! The novel was a bit graphic, so I don't recommend it to very young readers. You know what, get it and read it when you are older! I think that Suze did a good job with her debut novel.I am defiantly looking forward to read more of her books. Anya and the Shy Guy is the perfect summer read! With all of the fluffiness, swoon, and interesting events, I was not able to put it down. I give Anya and the Shy Guy 4.25 /5 stars . Title: Seriously Wicked ( The Seriously #1) Author: Tina Connolly Publisher: Tor Teen Publication Date: May 5th, 2015 Genre: YA, Fantasy, Paranormal Format: e ARC My Rating: 4/5 stars Blurb: The only thing worse than being a witch is living with one. Camellia’s adopted mother wants Cam to grow up to be just like her. Problem is, Mom’s a seriously wicked witch. Cam’s used to stopping the witch’s crazy schemes for world domination. But when the witch summons a demon, he gets loose—and into Devon, the cute new boy at school. Now Cam’s suddenly got bigger problems than passing Algebra. Her friends are getting zombiefied. And a phoenix hidden in the school is going to explode on the night of the Halloween Dance. To stop the demon before he destroys Devon’s soul, Cam might have to try a spell of her own. But if she’s willing to work spells like the witch...will that mean she’s wicked too? My Review: I received a review copy of Seriously Wicked from Teen Tor via Net Galley, in exchange with an honest review . You will be taken on a journey filled with magic and wicked Witches ; you will absolutely enjoy it . Tina's creativity is endless ! From her weird spell components , to the description of demons, this author will leave you amazed ! This is a story where the girl saves the day, and her crush ! #Finally My only problem was that the story seemed to be aimed for a more juvenile readers. In other words, it felt more like a MG , rather than a YA, with characters in their mid Teens . This is not such a negative thing at all ! I just was prepared fora more YAish feel. I did not realize that this is a part of the series until the end, which made me excited to read more of this series.I can't wait to see what Tina has to show us with her outstanding imagination. I give Seriously Wicked 4/5 stars. |
