Title: Dreamology Author: Lucy Keating Publisher: Harper Teen Publication Date: April 12th 2016 Genre: Contemporary, YA, Fantasy Format: ebook My Rating: 4/5 stars Links: Goodreads . Amazon Blurb: For as long as Alice can remember, she has dreamed of Max. Together they have traveled the world and fallen deliriously, hopelessly in love. Max is the boy of her dreams—and only her dreams. Because he doesn’t exist. But when Alice walks into class on her first day at a new school, there he is. It turns out, though, that Real Max is nothing like Dream Max, and getting to know each other in reality isn’t as perfect as Alice always hoped. When their dreams start to bleed dangerously into their waking hours, the pair realize that they might have to put an end to a lifetime of dreaming about each other. But when you fall in love in your dreams, can reality ever be enough? My Review: This book captured my attention because of its concept, which can obviously be seen from the title. Dreams !!! I believe that dreams are the gates to one's soul and subconscious . I get to discover more about myself through them, and take every theme represented into consideration when observing real life events. That is enough, we are not here to discuss me !!! In Dreamology, we see Alice and Alex having amazing adventures & falling in love, but that only happens in the dream world. When Alice begins attending a new school, she sees the boy of her (DREAMS!!) sitting right there. But life is complicated, and they thought each one was having a perfect imaginary friend/lover. How do they adjust to this, was Alice the only one having those dreams, why is she having them, etc? Find out by reading this book. I found myself laughing a lot + enjoying swoon-worthy moments + appreciating such an intriguing plot . Do I need to explain more why I loved this ??? This book will definitely make you SWIGGLE " Swoon+Giggle" The characters are well built . They doesn't get to be more realistic than than that. This was a 5 star read up until I reached the last few chapters. I wished that there was more of the story to be told, but that barely affected how much I loved the book . Lucy did a brilliant job with this debut novel, and I can't wait to see what she writes next. I give it 4/5 stars. About the Author: Lucy lives in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, attended Williams College in the Berkshires, and still misses the East Coast very much. When she's not writing, Lucy can usually be found obsessing over the latest music, inventing new flavors of ice cream, or having what she feels are perfectly acceptable conversations with her dog, Ernie. Title : Hungry ( Remade S01E02 ) Author: Andrea Phillips Publisher: Serial Box Publishing Publication Date: September 14th 2016 Genre: YA, Sci-Fi My Rating: 4/5 stars Links: GoodReads . SerialBox Blurb: Every minute, 108 people die. On October 14th, 2016, from 9:31-9:32 p.m. EDT, 23 of those deaths will be teenagers. Now they are humanity’s last hope for survival. Awakened in a post-apocalyptic world and hunted by mechanical horrors, these teens search for answers amidst the ruins of civilization. Fate, love, and loyalty face off in this adrenaline -pumping YA adventure. ReMade will unfold in 15 episodes. My Review: I received an e-ARC copy of Hungry from the publisher via NetGALLEY , in exchange with an honest review. In this episode, we get to know more about the place where Holden & those who were with him had arrived, which was revealed by the end of episode one. Not only that, but also we get to see some flashbacks for one of the characters' past lives , May's. You might be thinking, oh look at these poor teenagers . They are almost always starving, and living in a dangerous place. But can you imagine a person who is allergic to various types of food in that situation? It is like, should I die starving, or should I perish because of my allergies? It is important to see these situations, so that people in real life aren't so (close-minded ??) & selfish towards anyone who isn't similar to them.. The fact that she has food allergies adds such a crucial element to the book. I really appreciate it when authors make their main characters suffer from some illness or disability. It is an important method to get people to understand the struggle, and erase some their Ignorance . So thank you, Andrea Philips ! We also begin to see some typical human traits kick in. I can't wait to see the full of effect of that. It took me awhile to get into the story, but I ended up really enjoying it. I give it 4/5 stars. Title: Forget Yesterday #1 Author: Pintip Dunn Publisher: Entangled Teen Publication Date: November 3rd 2015 Genre: YA, Dystopia, Fantasy Format: Ebook My Rating: 3.5/5 stars Links: GoodReads . Amazon Blurb: Imagine a world where your destiny has already been decided…by your future self. It’s Callie’s seventeenth birthday and, like everyone else, she’s eagerly awaiting her vision―a memory sent back in time to sculpt each citizen into the person they’re meant to be. A world-class swimmer. A renowned scientist. Or in Callie’s case, a criminal. In her vision, she sees herself murdering her gifted younger sister. Before she can process what it means, Callie is arrested and placed in Limbo―a prison for those destined to break the law. With the help of her childhood crush, Logan, a boy she hasn’t spoken to in five years, she escapes the hellish prison. But on the run from her future, as well as the government, Callie sets in motion a chain of events that she hopes will change her fate. If not, she must figure out how to protect her sister from the biggest threat of all. My Review: I have to say that the concept that lead to this book is amazing !! Maybe I am being biased , since my WIP is based on a similar world. This is a book that will grab your attention right from the start, and leave you wondering what is going to happen next all of the time. My favorite thing about this book is the world that it is set in. In a world where (who you become in the future, affects what happens to you in the present), a lot of things could go wrong. Which is exactly what happened to our protagonist. I got some Delirium vibes, which is more than okay because that book is amazing ! I found the romance to be very rushed, especially when it comes to Callie. She didn't show any signs of affection towards Logan until he started talking to her again after 5 years of no communication what so ever. I don't want to mention any spoilers, but some of the revelations towards the end of book didn't click for me. I am counting on the sequel to clear these up because the main story has great potential . There is too much that need to me explained !! The Cliffhanger at the end was simply, perfect ! Overall , this was a good read. I give it 3.5/5 stars About the Author: When her first-grade teacher asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, Pintip replied, “An author.” Although she has pursued other interests over the years, this dream has never wavered. Pintip graduated from Harvard University, magna cum laude, with an A.B. in English Literature and Language. She received her J.D. at Yale Law School, where she was an editor of the YALE LAW JOURNAL. With time running out and mad dolls on the rampage, Ella questions her very existence as she unearths the secrets buried in her past; secrets that will decide whether Gabby will befall the same fate.. My Review: I received a review copy from Curiosity Quills , in exchange with an honest review. Broken Dolls is not only a book with an intruging plot that urges many readers to pick up the book, but also a story that will keep you questioning the main characters' motives with every page flipped. If you enjoyed Coraline, then you are probably going to end up Head over Heels for this book! If I can review this book with only one sentence, then this would be it . "This book is weird in the best way ever !!" After finishing this book, all that I wanted to do is send an email to Tim Burton to tell him about this incredible story !! I can see this adapted into a successful, dark stop motion animation . This book helped me survive my migraine that lasted for more than 12 hours ! When my eyes were closed to escape the dreadful fatigue , I had such a luscious, vivid tale to entertain me. Some people weren't pleased with how the book ended, but I simply believe that it was perfect. I absolutely loved Broken Dolls, and I can't wait to read more books by this awesome author. I give it 5/5 stars. About the Author: I'm a Jack, or more accurately, a Tyrolin of all trades. Can you blame me? Title : Shadows & Dreams ( Remade S01E01 ) Author: Mathew Cody Publisher: Serial Box Publishing Publication Date: September 14th 2016 Genre: YA, Sci-Fi My Rating: 4/5 stars Links: GoodReads . SerialBox Blurb: You live. You love. You die. Now RUN. ReMade. Every minute, 108 people die. On October 14th, 2016, from 9:31-9:32 p.m. EDT, 23 of those deaths will be teenagers. Fate, love, and loyalty face off in this adrenaline -pumping YA adventure. ReMade will unfold in 15 episodes. My Review: I received an e-ARC copy of Shadows and Dreams from the publisher via NetGALLEY , in exchange with an honest review. Shadows and Dreams is an intriguing pilot with lots of vivid, futuristic descriptions that will leave you craving to read the next episode . Sometimes, you need to read more than 30 pages to get into the book. However, this pilot managed to capture my interest half way through ( the 30-something pages) & the ending was just perfect. I felt like there was so much pressure on Mathew to make the readers fall in love with this serial , and I believe that he did an amazing job with this pilot ! About the Author: Originally from the Midwest, Matthew Cody now lives in New York City with his wife and son. When not writing books or goofing off with his family, he teaches creative writing to kids of all ages. Title: Gabriel and the Swallows Author: Esther Dalseno Publisher: Of Tomes Publication Publication Date: March 2016 Genre: New Adult, Fantasy, Romance Format: ebook My Rating: 4.75/ 5 stars Links: GoodReads . Amazon Blurb: Orvieto, 1957 Gabriel, a peasant boy with a disabled mother, constructs elaborate fantasy worlds to comfort when life becomes unbearable. The monotonous days of poverty and merciless bullying are interrupted when Gabriel unintentionally attracts the attention of a mysterious creature, a girl with swallow’s wings. Navigating life with fellow outsider, the foreigner Orlando Khan, Gabriel abandons his small town for the grandeurs of Rome. But Gabriel is now a man and must choose where he belongs: the imperfect reality, or the dream world that grows stronger and more seductive with each day… My Review: Gabriel and the Swallows is a coming of age book that is not only beautifully written, but also creatively scripted . It is not another coming of age story; It is a magical story that includes diversity that is well researched, magical realism that is mind-blowing, and a writing style that will haunt you ! I found myself highlighting a lot of quotes !!!! And by a lot , I mean way too much !! He called everyone “God-damn bastardo salami-eaters, except for you Gabriel . “I am a human with bird tendencies when I am with you.And I am a bird with human tendencies when I am with them.” - Volatile “Your subconscious is a place too, as real as any other.” -Volatile If that doesn't make you want to get and read this book ASAP, I don't know what will. Gabriel's best friend Orlando, was a Muslim. Once I discovered that, I was dancing around like a fool. Esther started by showing some of the Islamic practices , before using the word Muslim or Islam. Just like any other human, Orlando made mistakes & sinned. She showed how Muslims are flawed, but not the religion itself. She also used some Arabic words with english pronunciation that I liked very much. Those who disliked this book complained about how foolish Gabriel was, and how it took him way to long to appreciate what he had. How the main characters were hard to LIKE !!! But I have to say that the fact that characters were flowed, made me love the story & the characters even more. This is a story with real characters, in a fictional world ! I only wished that the revelation part was described a bit more, especially that Esther is a wizard with words , when it comes to description. I absolutely adored GATS; it is a book the left with tears, not only because of the events that shaped the ending, but also because my journey with this book was over. I give it 4.75/ 5 stars . About the Author: Esther Dalseno was born in Australia. After living in both Portland, Oregon and Sydney, New South Wales, she headed off to see the world. Writing and teaching, she has lived in Laos, Vietnam and South Korea and has traveled the world extensively. She now lives in with her family in Berlin. Title: Animal Farm Author: George Orwell Publisher: Secker and Warburg Publication Date: August 17, 1945 Genre: Dystopia, Classics , Literature Format: Paperback My Rating : 4/5 Links: Goodreads . Amazon Blurb: "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others." Revolution is in the air at Manor Farm after old Major, a prize boar, tells the other animals about his dream of freedom and teaches them to sing "Beasts of England." Mr Jones, the drunken farmer, is deposed and a committee of pigs takes over the running of the farm. The animals are taught to read and write, but the dream turns sour, the purges begin and those in charge come more and more to resemble their oppressors. Orwell's allegory of the Soviet revolution remains as lucid and compelling as ever. In beautifully clear prose, he gives us a vivid gallery of characters and a fable that conveys the truth about how we are manipulated through language and the impossibility of finding heaven on earth. My Review: Animal Farm was one of my favorite reads in 2015. Not only was it enjoyable , but also very satirical . It is funny how history keeps on repeating itself, and we keep on finding ourselves pawns to vial actions covered in an eluding disguise of saints. One thing that really caught my attention was how those who were bad at memorizing were considered stupid. Since this was written in third person, I wasn't sure if Orwell was capturing the common stigma during that time, or simply stating his own opinion. My favorite quotes include: 1) "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." 2) “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.” This was an enjoyable, thought provoking read ! I give it 4/5 stars. About the Author: Eric Arthur Blair, better known by his pen name George Orwell, was an English author and journalist. His work is marked by keen intelligence and wit, a profound awareness of social injustice, an intense opposition to totalitarianism, a passion for clarity in language, and a belief in democratic socialism. Title: Queen of Someday ( Stolen Empire #1) Author: Sherry D. Ficklin Publisher: Clean Teen Publishing Publication Date: October 7th, 2014 Genre: YA, Historical Fiction Format: e-book My Rating: 3 stars Links: GoodReads . Imperial Court holds dangers like nothing Sophie has ever faced before. With traitors and murderers lurking around every corner, her very life hangs in the balance. Betrothed to one man but falling in love with another, Sophie will need to decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice in order to become the empress she is destined to be. In a battle for the soul of a nation, will love or destiny reign supreme? My Review: I received a review copy from the Clean Teen Publishing in exchange with an honest review. If you enjoyed " The Selection", you might want to pick this up. The Selection was a dystopian, but this is a historical fiction. This means that you get to see less social status, more ugly truths in this book. My favorite thing about this book was the character building and development. I believe that Sherry did a fantastic job creating characters that you will get to truly love, hate, and pity . I wasn't a huge fan of the love square; this might be one of the reasons that turned me off. It wasn't easy for me to rate this book, there were a lot of things that I loved, yet a lot that I didn't really enjoy. I give it 3/5 stars. Title: Queen of Tomorrow ( Stolen Empire #2) Author: Sherry D. Ficklin Publisher: Clean Teen Publishing Publication Date: July 15th, 2015 Genre: YA, Historical Fiction Format: e-book My Rating: 4 stars Links: GoodReads . Amazon Blurb: Sophie—now Catherine, Grand Duchess of Russia—had a tough first year at Imperial Court. Married at sixteen to Grand Duke Peter, heir to the throne, and settled in their own palace, things are finally looking up. As a new day dawns, she thinks only of securing her future, and the future of their country, during one of the greatest political upheavals of her time. Fighting desperately against forces trying to depose the Empress Elizabeth and put the young Prince Ivan on her throne, Sophie soon finds herself in the middle of a war brewing between her beloved Prussia, and her new empire. But even as she navigates the fragile political landscape, she quickly realizes that she has only begun to discover the tangled web of deceit and infidelity woven over the lavish court of Oranienbaum Palace. When a strange and delicate alliance forms between the young couple, she glimpses a future of happiness, only to see it lost in a moment at the hands of those who still seek to end her life—and prevent her reign. Out of favor with the empress and running out of options, Sophie will have to sacrifice her own innocence on the altar of Russia if she is to save the nation, and herself. To survive, she will have to do the unthinkable, betray those closest to her and become something greater and more dangerous than she ever imagined she could be… a queen. My Review: I received a review copy from Clean Teen Publishing in exchange with an honest review. I didn't know that I will end up loving this book. I wasn't a big fan of the 1st book, but this.... It is incredible! I repeat what I said about character development in the 1st book, but Sherry takes it to a brand new level. The plot thickens in Queen of Tomorrow ! Sophie grows a thicker skin, and faces the consequences of doing so. Peter, well.... I went from hating him , to feeling sorry for him, and the circle keeps on spinning. If you have read the 1 st book , and weren't sure if you want to continue the series, I highly recommend you to do so. I really enjoyed this, and I give it 4/5 stars. About the Author: Sherry D. Ficklin is a full-time writer and the author of over a dozen novels for teens and young adults. She is the best-selling author of the Stolen Empire series, the #Hacker series, and The Lost Imperials series. She can often be found browsing her local bookstore with a large white hot chocolate in one hand and a towering stack of books in the other. That is, unless she’s on deadline at which time she, like the Loch Ness monster, is only seen in blurry photographs.
Title: The Jump
Author: Doug Johnstone Publisher: Faber&Faber Publication Date: August 9th, 2016 Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Fiction Format: e-ARC My Rating: 4.5/5 stars Links: Amazon . Goodreads Blurb: Struggling to come to terms with the suicide of her teenage son, Ellie lives in the shadows of the Forth Road Bridge, lingering on its footpaths and swimming in the waters below. One day she talks down another suicidal teenager, Sam, and sees for herself a shot at redemption, the chance to atone for her son's death. But even with the best intentions, she can't foresee the situation she's falling headlong into — a troubled family, with some very dark secrets of their own. The Jump is a hugely moving contemporary thriller, and a stunning portrait of an unlikely heroine. MY Review: I received an eARC of The Jump from Faber&Faber in exchange with an honest review. This book was released last year in th e UK, but this blog tour is for the US rerelease of the book. This is my very first Doug Johnstone book, and honestly I am very impressed with The Jump. This is a book that will give you something to think about with every chapter you finish ! I was hooked right after finishing the first chapter. The writing style is one of those things that matter to me the most, and I enjoyed the one in this book. It wasn't what I usually loved, which is "Pretty & Metaphoric", but rather " Smooth & Fast Flowing" . This suits the storyline perfectly. There is nothing better than an intriguing plot, and fast flowing writing style. Smooth & Fast flowing writing, doesn't mean that the description was plain and boring. This is a story that needed so much emotional description, and it doesn't lack that. I really enjoyed reading The Jump. I give it 4.5/5 stars.
Doug's writing process
Every book comes to life in the same way (at least they have so far, and I’m halfway through a first draft of my ninth novel and I don’t see any sign of the pattern ending). Before I begin a first draft, I spend a couple of months planning, plotting and making notes. I say “making notes,” but the process is a lot more haphazard than that suggests. To begin with, it’s really just scribbling stream of consciousness guff — ideas about themes, characters, settings and so on. Usually all of this is swirling around a central “inciting incident” — a hit and run, a missing person, a suicide. Gradually over the weeks, things begin to coalesce into something more tangible, and at the same time, stuff starts to appear on the walls above my desk. For a start there are pictures. Photographs of locations along with images of people who fit the physical characteristics of my characters. There is always an Ordnance Survey map of the area where the action takes place. So for my latest book, The Jump, I had a huge map of the river Forth, stretching from Fife over to Edinburgh, with all the little islands scattered about, and of course the bridges that span the water, the structures that are such an integral part of the story. Also, at some point, a writing schedule makes its way onto the wall. How many words need to be written by which dates. I rarely stick to it, but it’s motivation enough to keep going. I also have a list of major plot points, and on my desk I have a more detailed scene-by-scene list. Some of these scenes are very fleshed out — typically the beginning and final scenes — but some of them have very little detail, leaving room for whatever pops into my brain at the time of writing. And still more stuff winds up on the wall. There’s usually a ‘Don’t Forget’ list — a compilation of themes, subplots, character relationships and so on that I want to keep in the loop. Writing a novel feels a lot like keeping all these plates spinning in the air, and this list is my reminder to give each particular plate a little spin every now and then. And then finally, just before I launch into the first draft, a single sheet of A4 goes up with motivational crap on it. This has grown over the years, each new book seemingly inspiring a new piece of advice for myself. And seeing as how I’m revealing all my writing method secrets here, I’ll end here with what was on my wall when I wrote The Jump. Whether it will mean anything to anyone else is open to debate, but I leave you with it anyway. Enjoy! BE FEARLESS LESS IS MORE SHOW, DON’T TELL NEVER APOLOGIZE, NEVER EXPLAIN INCREASE THE CONFLICT AS EXTREME AS POSSIBLE EVERY WORD MUST JUSTIFY ITS EXISTENCE

Title: The Memory Game Author: Sharon Sant Publisher: Lightfoot Press Publication Date: April 8th, 2015 Genre: YA, Thriller, Paranormal, Ghosts Format:e-ARC My Rating: 4/5 stars Links: Goodreads . Amazon . Blurb: 'If there is a hell, I think maybe this is it.' Weeks after fifteen-year-old David is killed by a speeding driver, he’s still hanging around and he doesn’t know why. Together, they find that the end is only the beginning… My Review: I received an e Arc copy of The Memory Game from LightFoot Press via Net Galley in exchange with an honest review. Although the plot sounds a lot of things that have I watched and read before, the author found a way to take an (over said and done tale) , and make it unique. I would have to say that voicing the main characters' emotions is an important thing to display in this story, and I wasn't disappointed ! The ending left shocked and amazed ! I never saw that coming. I would definitely be interested in reading more of her novels. I give it 4/5 stars. About the Author : Sharon Sant was born in Dorset but now lives in Stoke-on-Trent.
