Title: Panic ( Panic #1) Author: Lauren Oliver Publisher: Harper Collins Publication Date: January 1st , 2014 Genre: YA, Contemporary, ( Realistic Fiction) My Rating : 4/5 stars ( B ) Blurb : Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do. Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for. This is not the entire blurb, but i don't read the entire thing before reading the book. Sometimes the blurb contains SPOILERS ! My Review: At first I was very disappointed ,but mainly because of my expectation. I expected Panic to be a Dystopian, with dangerous games , etc. It was none of those things! Well there were some games that were kind of dangerous, but nothing Epic . I believe this why the book received mixed reviews. A lot of people thought of it as a book similar to The Hunger games. I believe their disappointment was epic, because I have not read The Hunger Games, or even the entire blurb of Panic, and I was not liking what I was reading. But once you throw your expectation out of the window and start reading more, you will be hooked. Panic turns out to be a game created to grand the winner a ticket out of this miserable town. People are willing to do stupid, sometimes things that could kill or arrest you, to win this perfect Getaway , One of my favorite things about this book is the character development! Oh, it was outstanding. For example, you have Heather, our female protagonist . At first I could not stand her, she was a senior acting like a 13 year old. As I continued reading, she began growing up. Through life experience, challenges , Panic, uncovering everyone's true intentions, I began to see her grow. The same is true to all of the characters. This is a story of going through experiences and learning what life is all about. I also loved how we saw the story from two distinctive point of views, Heather's and Dodge's. Conversations are just pact with humor, sarcasm, love, and hate, taking the reader on a ship sinking in all of these emotions and devouring every bit of it. As usual , Lauren Oliver's writing traps you in a beautiful story and won't set you free until you finish reading. i ended up really enjoying Panic ! I think that the story is sort of a moral one. It gives you an insight on growing up and sorting your priorities, friendship, and much more. I think the book is a very realistic fiction that casts upon us certain Truths about the world we live in. I gave this book 4/5 stars on good reads. According to my rating system, I will give it a B !

Title: The Circle #1 Author: K.M.Montemayor Publisher: Smashwords Publication Date : January 21st 2014 Genre: Fantasy, Romance, YA My Rating : 4/5 stars (B+) Summary: He was created for only one person. She was never supposed to be the One. It is 1988, Clear Lake, Texas. Lilly Garcia is not looking forward to her senior year of high school. She is a shy, studious, band geek with a non-existent social life, who lives out her romantic fantasies through the fictional characters of her books. But all that changes when she issues a spur of the moment invitation to a strange, new student. Charlie isn't happy about returning to Earth and he resents having to attend high school to blend in. His father has been recruited for another mission to spy on the Earthans and make sure they have no idea of the existence of the Sentrian civilization. The Sentrian leaders are not only paranoid and disdainful of the Earthans, but also controlling and suspicious of their own people. Almost every aspect of a Sentrian's life is under the supervision of the State. Their religious beliefs are the one exception. Sentrians do not have free will, and all the people believe in the existence of God. Their belief that God chooses your soul mate is their most sacred law. While on Sentria, Charlie never found his chosen, and when he develops an attraction to an Earthan, he is torn. Should he ignore his feelings for Lilly, feelings he knows are wrong, or should he pursue a doomed relationship with the only person who has ever mattered to him? My Review: This is a book that makes you have a smile plastered on your face most of the times. The plot is amazing the characters are one of those you want to befriend in real life, except for the bad guys. You want to punch those :D Although I did not like the writing, which was telling, not showing the story, I still gave it 4 stars / 5. Why? Well , when you have a bland steak ( the writing style) and a juicy sauce ( the plot) , the taste will still be awesome. It is also a book that revolves around people who love books , so i ended with some really interesting book recommendations. Thanks to Charlie and Liliana , who are the cutest thing ever! I think is one of those books that is good for anyone who wants to start reading, I could not put the book down and I can barely wait for the next book ! We finally get some description starting from the second half of the book , and honestly the author has built such a beautiful world, which I hope we will be able to read more about in the following books. |
